Deepavali in Singapore

Deepavali or in many other parts of the world, Diwali is a Hindu festival. It is richly celebrated in our much blessed and multicultural society. Here in Singapore, it commands the respect of a public holiday. Part of the beauty of living here is the opportunity to experience and share in the culture of our fellow Singaporeans.
An explosion of colours greets you as you step into the heritage enclave of little India in Serangoon Road, whisking you away on a magic carpet ride through a painting of lights, a cacophony of sounds accompanied by the incessant tinkling of bell and a heady aroma of spices. The smiles here are as genuine as those in India, and the haggling as ferocious. There is a sense of purpose as people seem to focus on their preparation for the festival ahead.
But amidst this euphoric environment pulses the true heart of what Deepavali is all about, and most aptly called- The Festival of Lights.
